I saw the headline, my eyes widened a bit, pumped my fist and shouted, “yes!” It wasn’t anything special — not a COVID-19 vaccine or anything — just validation of my punctuation preference.

With a new update, Microsoft Word now acknowledges two spaces after a period as a grammatical error. As it should be. You might disagree. This, after all, is part of a debate stretching back as far as the invention of the printing press. Science even says I’m wrong (oh, the betrayal).

But if you and your organization are intent on social-distancing your sentences, at least stay consistent. Learn more.
