AI transforms a Florida classroom

by Jan Schroder

As debates rage over the potential unintended consequences of artificial intelligence, a Pasco County middle school is embracing the technology safely … and adorably.

Dayspring Academy is using an AI-generated puppy – BaxterBot – to answer student questions immediately, serving as a personal tutor that adjusts the content, pace and support needed for each unique child.

It’s also – pun intended – the teacher’s pet, sharing frequently asked questions and offering suggestions to shape lesson plans for more effective learning.

Scholar Education, a Tampa-based edtech startup, launched the program at Dayspring Academy this school year and plans to expand to additional schools in the fall.
