Back-to-school bash at UW-Madison

The museum’s collection has grown from 1,600 paintings and works on paper acquired by UW-Madison between 1885 and 1970, when the Chazen Museum of Art opened as the Elvehjem Art Center. Students of all ages are invited to UW-Madison’s Back-to-School Bash at Chazen Museum of Art on Thursday, Aug. 31 between 3-5 p.m. for free tote bag decorating, snacks and a University of Wisconsin-style scavenger hunt – all in anticipation (and celebration) of going back to school.

The Chazen Museum of Art boasts learning opportunities at every turn, from ancient history (via the “Oil Jar (Lekythos) with Two Women Carrying Funerary Gifts,” attributed to The Timokrates Painter of Greece, circa 460 B.C.E.) to geometry (inherent to Hans Hofmann’s 1957 painting “August Light”).

The museum is open daily and always free.
