How will Wisconsin respond to Trump’s border wall national emergency?

California and 15 other states have joined a federal lawsuit declaring President Trump’s national emergency “unconstitutional.” How have our state lawmakers reacted?

Governor Evers reports that he is “exploring” joining the lawsuit, and that the people of Wisconsin understand there is no real national emergency. Attorney General Josh Kaul took it a step further, declaring Trump’s national emergency to be a blatant attempt to circumvent constitutional checks and balances. If federal funds are diverted away from Wisconsin to lay concrete, Kaul says the Department of Justice will take “appropriate action.”

Both men sound confident the courts will block the declaration.
