Madison crowned best football town in America by Sports Illustrated

Oxford, Mississippi, is home to The Grove, the spiritual home of American tailgating. Athens, Georgia, houses 80 bars in a single square mile and quadruples in population on game day.

And yet, neither outranked Madison as America’s best football town, according to Sports Illustrated. Columnist Joan Niesen cited the city’s “picturesque” lakes, the Terrace (naturally) and the delightful ribbon of bars on State. She also labeled UW-Madison “the most delightful spot in the Midwest.”

Football fans from south of the Mason-Dixon Line may be shocked by the cold, but Spotted Cow provides a great game-day beer blanket.
