Chippewa Falls business remains in step with its roots

by Jan Schroder

For more than a century, Mason Shoe Company’s been keeping pace with the footwear needs of Wisconsinites and their busy lifestyles.

Founded by August and Bert Mason in 1904, the company began as a manufacturer of work boots in the logging town of Chippewa Falls. Men’s shoes were peddled door-to-door beginning in 1930 and the company’s premiere mail-order catalog reached homes across the state in 1985.

Following a century in business, the company ceased manufacturing and pivoted to reach an even wider audience via the acquisition of new catalogs and the launch of its first website in 1999. It remains family owned.
