The city’s local food scene is getting its just desserts – as evidenced by the 2024 James Beard Foundation’s Restaurant and Chef Award semifinalists.

Syovata Edari of CocoVaa Chocolatier (1815 East Washington Ave.) earned accolades for her micro-batch, artisanal, ethically sourced fine chocolate in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category, while Pasture and Plenty (2433 University Ave.), the meal kit service and farm to-table deli and catering company, was touted for Outstanding Hospitality.

Sean Pharr of Mint Mark (1929 Winnebago St.) was included among Best Chefs: Midwest for his produce-forward menu showcasing the best of Wisconsin’s bounty – including Friday’s killer fish fry.
