Despite next-door-neighbor Minnesota’s claim to fame as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Wisconsin might boast 15,000 – or so the aquatic-dotted landscape suggests.
Suffice it to say, northern Wisconsin is a happening spot for summertime swimming. While myriad lakes are bigger and less remote, one takes a special prize.
Black Oak Lake – located in northernmost Vilas County, just a scant mile from the Upper Peninsula – has been dubbed the clearest in the Dairy State. While you won’t spy black oaks growing this far north, stellar underwater sightlines (up to 30 feet down!) are sure to dazzle.
Talk about transparency.
