A bar of many spirits (fermented and otherwise)

At Shaker’s Cigar Bar in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood, your Death in the Afternoon absinthe cocktail may not be the only spirit at your side.

Built on a 19th-century European settlement cemetery, this foreboding yet charming speakeasy is no ordinary haunted house. If walls could talk, they’d give spine-tingling accounts of yellow fever, untimely casualties and revenge-filled crimes by Shaker’s past inhabitants.

Here, there are no actors in Victorian-style garb. Rather, this unembellished representation of Milwaukee’s past promises to test your belief in things better left unseen.

Watch owner Bob Weiss discuss ghost tours and more.
