Lakefront Brewery always seeks ways to reduce its impact on the environment, including turning beer grain into recycled animal feed. Spent grain makes up as much as 85% of the brewery’s total byproduct, so recycling helps to lessen its waste stream.
“We contract with a company, which picks up our spent grain and sells it to farmers,” said Chris Ranson, Lakefront’s tour and environmental director. “What is waste to us provides an excellent source of nutrition for animals.”
The company also sources locally, purchases wind power from WE Energies and hosts an environmental tour guided by brewery president, Russ Klisch.
