Many die-hard Dylan fans don’t know that the legendary folk singer briefly lived in Wisconsin. Inspired by his time here, in 1961 he drafted an ode to the dairy state. Conserved on a torn sheet of paper for 56 years, the unpublished lyrics sold at auction for $24,000 in 2017. One verse reads:
I’m a heading out Wisconson ways
2000 miles to go
Madison, Milwakee set’s my heart aglow
I’m a coming to that dairy state
My heart’s a beating fast
I’ll pick my banjo gently there
And twiddle my mustache
