With five Big Ten West championships since 2011, it’s no surprise the University of Wisconsin football team is one of the athletic department’s proudest programs.
It shows on the bottom line: In 2016-17, football was responsible for 63 percent of total revenue generated by Badger teams; $73 million of the total $115 million.
The second-most revenue comes from men’s basketball at $24 million. Total revenue for all other sports combined is $17 million.
UW football’s revenue helps the university maintain other programs, such as track and field, and increases awareness and interest for the overall Wisconsin athletic department.
