Nestled in the northwest corner of Arizona, the tiny town of Oatman is bursting at the seams with character, Wild West history – and a bevy of benevolent burros.
While the diminutive donkeys (descended from gold miners’ beasts of burden) might appear as relics of a bygone era, they not only roam freely but also outnumber humans in this remote, rugged wilderness.
It is not unusual to spy dozens of the world-famous Oatman burros wandering the streets, nudging tourists for treats and otherwise delighting folks from far and wide with their gentle dispositions.
Giddyap, and give the burros a wide berth.
