Back in April, we implored you to remove your snow tires ASAP to protect their sensitive tread from dry roads. With colder weather approaching, it’s already time to break them back out.
To preface, all-season tires, AWD and “snow” settings are not safe substitutes for bona fide snow tires. The challenge with installing snow tires, however, is timing. Too early and you’ll wear them out. Too late and you’ll slide off the road. So when is best?
The ideal time to swap tires is when the temperature consistently dips below 50. In Wisconsin, that typically happens in late October.
