When the snow flies, Wisconsin residents still expect a smooth and safe morning commute. They rely on people like Tyler Steffen, a Waukesha public works employee who has been clearing snowy roads for 20 years.
Steffen’s daily schedule is 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but when snowstorms occur outside of regular work hours, he’s on call and ready to respond within 30 minutes.
“Each storm varies. It can take from 4 to 12 hours to clear the streets after a storm,” says Steffen.
Although the long hours can be tedious, Steffen knows he’s helping people commute safely.
