Once touted as “the eighth wonder of the world” by President Trump, the Foxconn project is inviting increasing skepticism.
The company originally promised 13,000 new jobs but has since downsized plans for its Mount Pleasant factory, employing just 178 people. Foxconn reiterated its promises in January, but Evers isn’t buying it. “The present contract deals with a situation that no longer exists, so it’s our goal to make sure that the taxpayers are protected,” he said in a statement.
Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz layered on: “Absolutely nothing they’ve said since the beginning of their project has been true.”
