Madison celebrates Pride Month

Visit the Capitol this month and you’ll spot a rainbow under the state and national flags.

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month. Satya Rhodes-Conway, Madison’s first openly gay mayor, raised the flag with an announcement: “The city of Madison has a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion across the board, and one of my top priorities is to make sure everyone’s voices are heard in our decision-making process.”

Wisconsin’s stance on LGBT rights isn’t entirely clear. In April, we elected anti-gay conservative Brian Hagedorn to the Supreme Court by a narrow margin.
