Over 100 billion plastic bags end up in landfills each year, where they’ll take up to 1,000 years to decompose. Thankfully, Pick ‘n Save is eliminating its bags from the equation.
Kroger, parent company of Pick ‘n Save and Metro Market, began a nationwide phase-out of single-use plastics on April 1. The company plans to reach 100% elimination by 2025, removing a whopping 6 billion plastic bags from use.
Hopefully the move will stimulate a statewide ban. Both Hawaii and California have effectively banned single-use plastic bags, and New York State plans to in March 2020.
