Since the early 1960s, College Avenue has been Appleton’s commercial hub. Only in recent years, however, has there been a desire among residents to live where the action is.

Plans for a $30 million, downtown mixed-use development are being considered, which includes 100 apartments above a new library and would be built on the current site of the Soldiers Square parking ramp. The project allows for future phases, which could include another 200 apartments and condos.

In the meantime, a mixed-use building at 423 W. College Ave, which includes luxury apartments on the second floor, is under construction.
