‘Miracle of life’ fuels farmer’s passion

Farming is a family tradition for dairy farmer Rick Roden of Roden Echo Valley, LLC.

“I’m probably not the earliest riser in the morning, but I get up by 6 a.m. so I can be at the farm a little after,” Roden says of his 650-cow enterprise in West Bend.

It’s worth it, though, he says – especially on those mornings in the maternity pen spending time with newborn calves and their mothers.

“Whether it is my own child or a baby calf, the miracle of life is pretty amazing.”
