Making Wisconsin supper clubs great again

Supper clubs — the establishments that time forgot in many small-town Wisconsin communities — continue their resurgence among travelers, foodies and craft-cocktail enthusiasts. Quintessentially Wisconsin, the retro decor, relish trays, brandy old-fashioneds and oversized portions feed the belly and the soul.

According to the nonprofit Wisconsinsupperclubs.net, the original establishments likely started in the 1920s as Prohibition roadhouses where gangsters stopped while moving moonshine.

Today, there are more than 300 along rivers, lakes and other out-of-the-way places from Bonduel to Burlington. There’s even a Travel Wisconsin Supper Club stand outside of Section 138 at Lambeau Field.
