What to expect from Foxconn’s ripple effects

by Michael Polzella

Construction on Foxconn’s new Racine County campus won’t begin until spring, but many are predicting big changes for the surrounding area.

“We fully expect Foxconn to spur additional growth,” said WEDC’s Mark Maley.

Several Foxconn suppliers have indicated they’re likely to move their operations to Wisconsin. That includes Corning Inc., which supplies the glass for Foxconn’s LCD panels. As new employees and their families move in, new restaurants and retailers will also pop up.

“Broadly speaking, Foxconn will bring positive economic development to the entire state,” said Maley. “Businesses that don’t yet exist will thrive in five to 10 years.”
